Synopsis
The Moscow Saga (2004) is a sweeping family epic adapted from Vasily Aksyonov's novel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Dmitry Barshchevsky charts the bloodline of Moscow surgeon Professor Gradov from 1925 onward.
Yuri Solomin heads the family, Inna Churikova plays his wife, and the ensemble includes Alexander Baluev and Evgeny Tkachuk. Across three decades the country grinds the Gradovs down with everyone else: the hopes of the 1920s, the arrests and denunciations of the 1930s, the war, the postwar crackdowns. The children grow up, fall in love, vanish into the camps, come back changed. A whole era is read through one living room and one dinner table.
A long, unhurried saga for lovers of Russian 20th-century prose and family drama where private life collides with the state machine. Stream The Moscow Saga (2004) online on iFILM.
