Synopsis
Christmas Story (Joulutarina, 2007) is a Finnish family fantasy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Juha Wuolijoki. Long ago in Lapland, a boy named Nikolas loses his parents in an accident. The village raises him collectively — each Christmas he moves to a new family, and before he leaves he carves small wooden toys for the children as a farewell gift.
A famine eventually forces the villagers to send him away to live with Iisakki, a solitary old carpenter played by Kari Väänänen. Iisakki bans any gift-making outright. Nikolas, patient and steady, slowly changes his mind. Hannu-Pekka Björkman and Otto Gustavsson play Nikolas at different ages, with Minna Haapkylä and Mikko Leppilampi in the ensemble.
