Synopsis

The 1988 cult film had its mean girls be rich, beautiful and conventionally popular. This TV reboot swaps the template: the new Heathers are a Black nonbinary student, an overweight girl and a transgender Heather, and they run the school just as viciously as their predecessors. Veronica Sawyer, played by Grace Victoria Cox, has to survive a full school year inside their orbit. The show uses the original film's structure to skewer contemporary identity politics and high-school social hierarchies with no mercy shown in either direction — which makes it funnier and nastier in roughly equal measure.
