Kate and Michael are best friends in Los Angeles — both deaf, both dealing with the particular friction of a hearing world that keeps slotting them into the representative box rather than treating them as individuals. A bad breakup drops back into Michael's life. Kate is sitting on a secret. A troubling thing surfaces between the two of them and starts pulling the friendship apart. Marlee Matlin and Nyle DiMarco appear in supporting parts, but the show's voice is entirely Stern and Feldman's — specific, funny, and not interested in explaining deafness to anyone.
