Clash

Clash (إشتباك, 2016) is an Egyptian-French drama you can watch online on iFILM. Cairo, July 2013: the streets are burning in the hours after the military removes president Morsi. A journalist, a pair of Muslim Brotherhood supporters, secular activists, and a Coptic Christian are pushed into the same police truck — a metal box that becomes the entire world of the film.

Directed by Mohamed Diab with a documentary-style camera that rarely cuts away, the story unfolds in near real time as gunfire moves closer outside and the detainees face the slow realisation that survival may require talking to someone they genuinely despise. Nelly Karim leads a large ensemble playing people who represent every fracture in Egypt's political landscape.
