Synopsis
The Nile Hilton Incident (2017) is a Nordic-French-Moroccan crime thriller directed by Tarik Saleh — watch it online on iFILM. Fares Fares plays Noredin, a Cairo detective who has long since made peace with how the system actually works: bribes taken, cases buried, eyes averted.
Cairo, January 2011. A woman is found dead in one of the city's luxury hotels. The only witness is an undocumented migrant worker with no one to speak for her. Noredin starts pulling threads, and the threads lead somewhere he was not supposed to look — to men with the kind of connections that make investigations disappear. Outside, the first crowds are gathering in Tahrir Square.
Tarik Saleh built the film as a slow-burn neo-noir about institutional rot, using the revolution as backdrop rather than subject — which makes it land harder. The film took the Golden Bear at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival. Stream The Nile Hilton Incident online on iFILM.
