Liar Game is the anime adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani's manga you can watch online: trusting college student Nao Kanzaki opens a package holding a fortune in cash and an invitation to a game built entirely around betrayal. Losing doesn't just cost you the money — it leaves you owing a debt for life to whoever runs the tournament.

Nao gets played within the first round and turns to Shinichi Akiyama, a con artist fresh out of prison and sharp enough to see every angle. What follows is round after round of psychological standoffs where the cash barely matters next to reading who's bluffing. Akiyama picks apart the other players' schemes move by move, while Nao is the one person in the room still trying to play it straight.

Saya Hitomi and Takeo Otsuka voice the leads, with Kazuhiro Nakaya and Nobuo Tobita among the supporting cast. Kaitani's original manga has been adapted more than once in Japan — a live-action drama and film besides this series — which says something about how well a story about the mechanics of lying holds up.
