Synopsis

Saving Face (2004) is a Chinese-American romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Alice Wu. Michelle Krusiec plays Wilhelmina Pang, a driven Manhattan surgeon who keeps two secrets simultaneously: her sexuality and the woman she is quietly falling for.

Her mother, played with warm comic timing by Joan Chen, turns up unannounced — pregnant, without a husband, and cheerfully attending matchmaking dinners arranged by the local Chinese community. Two women with enormous things to hide end up living under the same roof, each maneuvering around the other's blind spot. The film never punishes anyone for being complicated.

What makes it stick is the refusal to frame the story as a coming-out drama. The real tension is between the need to belong and the need to be honest — a conflict that lands the same whether or not you share the characters' background. Stream Saving Face (2004) on iFILM.
