Synopsis
Under the Banner of Heaven (2022) is a Hulu crime miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, based on Jon Krakauer's nonfiction book of the same name. Andrew Garfield plays Detective Jeb Pyre, a devout Mormon whose faith begins to crack as he digs into a brutal double murder in 1984 Utah.
A young mother and her infant daughter are found dead. The trail leads to the Lafferty brothers — once-respected members of the LDS Church who drifted into fundamentalist extremism, claiming direct revelations from God. As Pyre pursues them, the case pulls him back through the early history of the Church itself, forcing him to weigh belief against evidence. Sam Worthington, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Wyatt Russell round out the cast.
Showrunner Dustin Lance Black — who wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for Milk — created the series, with David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) directing several episodes.
