Synopsis
The Chronology of Water (2025) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM — and Kristen Stewart's first feature as director. Imogen Poots plays Lidia Yuknavitch, a competitive swimmer who grew up absorbing violence at home and spent years ricocheting between addiction, reckless desire, and grief before putting it all into words.
The film follows Lidia's escape into university and the literary world — but escape is rarely clean. Thora Birch plays her friend Claudia; Tom Sturridge is Devin; Jim Belushi appears as Ken Kesey. The story is adapted from Yuknavitch's 2011 memoir of the same name, a book known for its refusal to offer tidy recovery arcs. Stewart shot across the US, France, and Latvia with Scott Free Productions and CG Cinéma, and the film built a strong festival run before wide release.
