Synopsis
The Hypnotist (Hypnotisören, 2012) is a Swedish crime thriller directed by Lasse Hallström, adapted from Lars Kepler's novel — stream it online on iFILM. A man is found brutally killed in a Stockholm sports club locker room. His wife and young daughter are discovered dead at home. The killer came for the whole family.
Detective Inspector Joona Linna pieces together that the teenage son barely survived and that an older daughter is still out there somewhere — presumably the next target. The boy is hospitalized and unconscious. To get a description of the killer before it's too late, Linna turns to psychiatrist Erik Maria Bark and asks him to use hypnosis. Bark abandoned the practice years ago and swore he'd never go back. He goes back.
Mikael Persbrandt and Lena Olin lead the cast. Hallström — better known for Chocolat and The Cider House Rules — takes a sharp turn into Scandinavian procedural noir here, and the film carries the particular chill that Swedish crime fiction does well. Watch The Hypnotist (2012) online on iFILM.
