Synopsis
Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) is a British historical comedy-drama directed by Roger Michell — watch online on iFILM. The film centers on a June 1939 weekend when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth made their first visit to the United States, ending up at Franklin D. Roosevelt's upstate New York estate.
The story is filtered through the eyes of Margaret Stuckley, FDR's distant cousin and quiet confidante, played by Laura Linney. She witnesses the president in private — charming, calculating, and carrying more than the country knows. Bill Murray plays Roosevelt not as a monument but as a man: witty, warm, slightly exhausting to be around. Olivia Colman as a queen still finding her footing and Samuel West as a king trying not to show his nerves round out a cast that works in close quarters.
The film's best argument is its modesty: two nations edging toward an alliance, brokered partly over hot dogs at a garden picnic. Small in scale, precise in tone. Stream Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) online on iFILM.
