Synopsis
The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021) is an animated adventure comedy you can watch online on iFILM. An ordinary family road trip turns into the last stand against a robot uprising.
Katie Mitchell is about to leave for film school and can't wait to escape her family. Her tech-clueless dad Rick decides to drive her there himself instead, cramming everyone into the old station wagon. Mid-trip, a friendly voice assistant named Pal turns on its makers, and machines start boxing up the human race. Saving the planet falls to the least likely crew imaginable: a bickering father and daughter, mom Linda, a dinosaur-obsessed little brother, and a cross-eyed pug the robots keep mistaking for a dog, then a loaf of bread.
Made at Sony Pictures Animation, the film was directed by Mike Rianda and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature and stands out for its scrappy, collage-style look, stitched together from doodles and meme energy.
