Synopsis
Terror by Night (1946) is a Sherlock Holmes mystery directed by Roy William Neill, ready to watch online on iFILM. Holmes boards the overnight London-to-Edinburgh train to guard a priceless diamond, and a body turns up almost at once.
The famous Star of Rhodesia belongs to elderly Lady Margaret, and her son hires the detective to keep it safe. Holmes (Basil Rathbone) smells the theft coming and quietly swaps the stone for a fake. Then the murder rewrites everything: the killer is trapped aboard with them, and every passenger in the carriage becomes a suspect. Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) and Inspector Lestrade pitch in as the train roars through the dark.
This is one of fourteen Universal pictures starring Rathbone as Holmes — a tight locked-room puzzle that never leaves the train and clocks in at a lean hour.
