Synopsis
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939) is a crime mystery with Basil Rathbone you can watch online on iFILM. Acquitted in court yet again, Professor Moriarty walks free and immediately sets a trap built to destroy the detective of Baker Street for good.
The scheme runs on two tracks. While Holmes chases a baffling murder tied to a family curse, Moriarty's real target sits inside the Tower of London: the crown jewels of England. Rathbone plays the sleuth lean and exact; Nigel Bruce gives Dr. Watson his blustering, lovable warmth; and Ida Lupino brings real fear as a young woman convinced she is next. George Zucco's Moriarty is no cartoon villain but a cold tactician who treats the perfect crime like a chess problem.
This was the second outing for the Rathbone–Bruce pairing, a duo that would carry on through more than a dozen films and fix the screen image of Holmes for a generation. Director Alfred L. Werker keeps it tight at 85 brisk minutes, trading exposition for momentum. Old black-and-white craft, but the puzzle still bites. Stream The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939) online on iFILM.
