Synopsis
The Grasshopper and the Ants (1934) is the Disney animated short you can watch online on iFILM. This eight-minute musical retelling of the old fable pits a carefree grasshopper, fiddling away all summer, against ants who haul in supplies for the cold months without a break.
Summer ends, the snow arrives, and the happy-go-lucky fiddler suddenly has nothing to eat. He's voiced by Pinto Colvig — the same actor behind Disney's Goofy — and the catchy tune "The World Owes Me a Living" went on to a life of its own. A hand-drawn entry in the Silly Symphonies series, directed by Wilfred Jackson: bright, warm, and built around a plain lesson about hard work. A nice one to watch with kids.
