Population 436 (2006) is an American horror thriller directed by Michelle MacLaren — watch it online on iFILM. Census agent Steve Kady is sent to investigate a statistical impossibility: the town of Rockwell Falls has recorded exactly 436 residents for the past hundred years. Every census, same number. He figures it's a data error. It isn't.

Jeremy Sisto plays Kady with a slowly tightening dread as the town's cheerfulness begins to feel like a lid on something. The mechanics behind the number are revealed in stages, and the film earns its unease from the internal logic of what's happening rather than from jump scares. Charlotte Sullivan and Fred Durst round out the cast.
