Carmen Colson (Diane Lane) and her ironworker husband Wayne (Thomas Jane) are pulled into witness protection after a chance encounter puts them in Blackbird's crosshairs. The wrinkle is his partner: Richie Nix, played by a pre-fame Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is erratic, vain, and deeply bad at this. Two killers, one target, one fundamental problem of professionalism — Leonard's engine is always the friction between competent and incompetent criminals. Hal Holbrook and Rosario Dawson appear in supporting roles.
