Synopsis
Churchill (2017) is a British historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jonathan Teplitzky. Brian Cox plays the wartime Prime Minister in a story compressed into the final 24 hours before the Normandy landings, with Miranda Richardson as Clementine and James Purefoy as Eisenhower.
It is June 5, 1944. Churchill is convinced Operation Overlord will send hundreds of thousands to their deaths the way Gallipoli did a generation earlier — and he is searching for any lever that might delay or derail it. Eisenhower and Montgomery shut the door on him. His own generals dismiss his objections. Only Clementine is left, watching her husband unravel under a weight he has no power left to lift.
Cox doesn't play Churchill as the bronze statue on Parliament Square. The man here is irrational, haunted by old failures, and occasionally pathetic — which is precisely what makes the film worth watching. Stream Churchill (2017) in full on iFILM.
