The War Between the Land and the Sea (2025) is a British science-fiction series you can watch online on iFILM. Set in the Doctor Who universe, it follows what happens when an ancient species that has hidden beneath the oceans for ages rises to the surface and reveals itself to humanity for the first time, setting off a worldwide crisis.
Holding the line falls to UNIT, the military task force that handles alien incursions. On the front are a scientist played by Russell Tovey, returning commander Kate Stewart played by Jemma Redgrave, and a lead turn from Gugu Mbatha-Raw. While governments stall and argue, the people on the ground have to work out what these deep-sea visitors actually want — and whether there's any deal to be struck with a race that walked the planet long before people did.
Russell T Davies, who relaunched Doctor Who in 2005, serves as showrunner, with Dylan Holmes Williams directing. The hook here is that it reworks the franchise's old sea-monster lore into a tight, Doctor-free invasion thriller. It plays well for longtime fans and first-contact sci-fi newcomers alike.
