Synopsis
A heart surgeon who saves lives for a living gets ready to end one — to save his daughter. The Oath (Eiðurinn, 2016) is Baltasar Kormákur's Icelandic crime thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM.
Finnur has it all sorted: an operating room where he's respected, a big house, a road bike, the smooth routine of a comfortable European life. It cracks open when he learns his eldest daughter has gone off the rails — out of school, hooked on drugs, dragged down by a local dealer named Óttar. The police can't touch the man, talking changes nothing, so the surgeon starts handling it himself. Step by step, a calm doctor turns into someone willing to break his Hippocratic oath and the law in the same breath.
Kormákur both directs and plays Finnur, which gives the film a tight, almost claustrophobic grip and a view from inside a man who knows exactly how a body works and coldly puts that knowledge to use.
