Synopsis
The Ladies Man (1961) is a classic Jerry Lewis comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Dumped by his girlfriend, Herbert H. Heebert swears off women for good — then, naturally, lands a job in a house full of them.
The boarding house turns out to be a residence for aspiring actresses and singers, leaving clumsy Herbert as the lone man among dozens of female tenants. Lewis directed as well as starred, constructing an enormous four-story dollhouse set with no front wall, so the camera roams the rooms like a cross-section of a cake. Plot barely figures into it; the film runs on pantomime, absurd gags and musical numbers backed by the Harry James orchestra. This is Lewis undiluted — some find the mugging inspired, others tap out by the ten-minute mark. Anyone who loves old Hollywood slapstick and pre-digital camera trickery should give it a look.
