Synopsis
Go On (2012) is an NBC tragicomedy starring Matthew Perry that you can watch online on iFILM. Sports radio host Ryan King has just lost his wife and wants nothing more than to get back behind the mic, acting like everything's fine.
His boss disagrees. Before Ryan can return to the air, he's ordered into a support group for people going through major life changes. The crowd there is a mixed bag — everyone carrying a loss, everyone strange in their own way. Ryan, who copes by cracking jokes and dodging his feelings, first turns the sessions into a contest, then quietly grows attached to these misfits. Perry is right at home here as a charming cynic with real grief under the armor.
Creator Scott Silveri assembled a sharp ensemble: Laura Benanti as the group leader, John Cho as Ryan's boss, plus Tyler James Williams and Brett Gelman among the regulars. The show ran a single season and was cancelled in 2013, but it stuck with people for its rare balance of laughs and low-key sadness. One for fans of comedy that grows out of something bitter.
