Synopsis
Ordinary Angels (2024) — watch online on iFILM — is a drama directed by Jon Gunn, drawn from a true story out of Louisville, Kentucky. Hilary Swank plays Sharon Stevens, a hairdresser with no particular reason to get involved in a stranger's crisis — and who gets deeply involved anyway.
Ed Schmitt is a widowed father raising two daughters alone. His youngest is critically ill and needs a liver transplant. The waiting list is long, the bills are mounting, and Ed, played by Alan Ritchson with quiet, exhausted restraint, is barely keeping it together. Sharon hears about the family, starts making calls, and before long has pulled an entire community into a fundraising operation that runs on stubbornness and goodwill.
This is straightforward feel-good drama and it doesn't pretend otherwise. What makes it work is that neither lead tips into sentimentality — Swank keeps Sharon pushy and imperfect, Ritchson keeps Ed proud in the way people are when they hate needing help.
