Synopsis
A Home of Our Own (1993) is an American drama you can watch online on iFILM. It opens in early-1960s Los Angeles, where widowed single mother Frances Lacey is raising six kids on next to nothing — and decides she's had enough of scraping by in a rented city room.
She loads the family up and drives north to rural Idaho, where she spots an abandoned, half-built house. The owner lets them stay in exchange for labor, and the Laceys start turning the shell into a real home one board at a time. Money runs out, winter closes in, and the fiercely proud mother keeps refusing every offer of charity. Eldest son Shayne narrates it all from years later. Kathy Bates plays Frances, with Edward Furlong as Shayne.
Director Tony Bill keeps the sentiment in check, making a quiet film about poverty and pride that rests squarely on Bates — sharp, loving and unbreakable. One for viewers who love understated family dramas in the vein of Places in the Heart. Stream A Home of Our Own (1993) online on iFILM.
