About

Synopsis

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (2023) is a quiet British drama you can watch online on iFILM. Jim Broadbent plays a retiree who steps out to post a letter and simply keeps walking.

Harold learns that Queenie, an old friend he fell out with twenty years ago, is dying in a hospice 450 miles away. At the postbox he changes his mind: he'll deliver the letter on foot, the whole length of England, in yachting shoes and with no plan at all. Strangers fall in beside him, the press turns him into a minor celebrity, and the road dredges up what he buried long ago — his marriage to Maureen (Penelope Wilton) and a guilt he never spoke aloud.

Hettie Macdonald directs from Rachel Joyce's bestselling novel, adapted by the author herself. It's a gentle, unhurried film about how starting over is possible even past sixty. Broadbent carries most of it on his face alone. Stream The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (2023) online on iFILM.
