About

Synopsis

Submarino (2010) is a Danish drama from Thomas Vinterberg — the director of The Celebration — available to watch online on iFILM. Fresh out of prison, Nick drinks, drifts between a shelter and a gym, and fights to reconnect with a world that mostly doesn't want him. His brother, never given a name in the film, is raising six-year-old Martin alone while a heroin habit quietly consumes everything around it. When their mother dies, the two men meet at the funeral and the past closes in.

As boys, both were left in charge of a baby while their mother drank. The baby died. That guilt is what drives each of them toward the edge — one through alcohol, the other through a drug deal he convinces himself is for his son's future. Jakob Cedergren and Peter Plaugborg carry the film mostly in silence; the damage lives in faces and small gestures. Hard cinema with no softening in sight. Stream Submarino (2010) online on iFILM.
