Another Round

Another Round (Druk, 2020) is a Danish tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Four middle-aged schoolteachers have drifted into a grey routine, barely tasting their own lives anymore.

Over dinner they latch onto a theory: humans are born with a slight alcohol deficit, and a low buzz makes a person bolder and happier. So the friends run an experiment, keeping a small drink in their blood all day long. At first it works like magic. Classes come alive, marriages warm up, the world sharpens. Then the dose they need starts to climb. Mads Mikkelsen plays Martin, a history teacher testing whether anything is left to rescue in his marriage and in himself.

Director Thomas Vinterberg made the film after a personal tragedy and dedicated it to his late daughter. It won the 2021 Academy Award for Best International Feature, and Mikkelsen's final dance on the harbor went around the world.
