Synopsis
The Climb (2020) is a US comedy worth watching online on iFILM. Michael Angelo Covino directed it and plays one of two best friends; co-writer Kyle Marvin plays the other. The opening finds them grinding up a hill on bikes in the south of France, where Mike casually drops that he slept with Kyle's fiancée.
From there the film jumps across years — weddings, a funeral, holidays, blowups and reluctant patch-ups that these two drag their friendship through like a loaded pack uphill. Kyle forgives almost anything. Mike finds a way to wreck it again. Gayle Rankin and George Wendt circle the wreckage as the people caught in between.
The whole thing is built from long unbroken takes; the camera orbits the pair for minutes at a stretch until the awkwardness turns physical. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
