Attila Ambrus slips across the border from poverty-stricken Romania into Budapest, scraping by on odd jobs and a spot as backup goalie for a local hockey team. The money never adds up. So he starts robbing — and over six years, from 1993 to 1999, he hits twenty-nine banks, post offices and travel agencies across the city. His signature: a shot of whiskey before every job. The press dubbed him the Whiskey Bandit, and for years the police had nothing.
