Synopsis
Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema (2008) is a South African crime drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Ralph Ziman. Rapulana Seiphemo plays Lucky Kunene, a kid from the townships with a precise list of ambitions: university, a BMW 7 Series, a house above the sea, a sharp wife.
The university turns him down for a scholarship. Lucky and his best friend Zakes get into car hijacking and climb fast. A botched job sends them to Johannesburg. Five years follow in a twenty-person apartment, grinding out a living in the taxi business. Then Lucky builds the People's Housing Fund for the Hillbrow district — a new operation, a new reach, a new kind of danger.
Hillbrow in the late 1990s was one of the most compressed, lawless urban zones on the continent, and Ziman treats it as a character rather than a backdrop.
