Synopsis
Tale of the Mummy (1998) is a horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Russell Mulcahy directs a wildly mixed cast: Jason Scott Lee, Louise Lombard and Sean Pertwee share the screen with a very young Gerard Butler and a brief turn from Christopher Lee in the prologue.
Long ago, Prince Talos was executed and his tomb sealed under a curse meant to keep his evil buried. In the late twentieth century a treasure-hungry expedition cracks that seal, and the diggers start vanishing one by one. The sarcophagus is shipped to London and the British Museum, right as a planetary alignment approaches and the spirit can wake. The reanimated mummy hunts the living for their organs, rebuilding itself piece by piece. Archaeologist Samantha and detective Riley stand in its way.
The movie owes plenty to old Hammer gothic yet paces itself almost like a slasher. It is silly in spots, but it commits, and the deep cast keeps it watchable. Good fun for fans of curses, mummies and late-90s horror. Stream Tale of the Mummy (1998) online on iFILM.
