Synopsis
Clay Pigeons (1998) is David Dobkin's black crime comedy, and you can watch online on iFILM. Clay, an ordinary guy in a tiny Montana town, has been sleeping with his best friend's wife. When the friend finds out, he shoots himself right in front of Clay — and rigs it to look like murder. From that grim, absurd morning, Clay's life slides straight downhill.
Trying to cover his tracks, he lies himself deeper into trouble as the body count quietly climbs. Enter Lester Long (Vince Vaughn), a grinning cowboy who becomes Clay's new "fishing buddy" — and casually kills people, convinced he's doing his pal a favor. A sharp FBI agent (Janeane Garofalo) rolls into town, and the noose tightens. Joaquin Phoenix plays the patsy who only sinks further with every attempt to climb out.
This was Dobkin's directorial debut, made years before his big studio comedies, and the tone here is dry, mean and pure early-Coen-brothers. Vaughn is a standout as the cheerful psychopath. Built for anyone who likes dark crime stories laced with gallows humor and zero sentiment. Stream Clay Pigeons (1998) online on iFILM.
