Buddy Buddy

Buddy Buddy (1981) is Billy Wilder's crime comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two men end up on the same hotel floor across from a courthouse: a stone-cold Mafia hitman and a sobbing loser who has decided to end it all.

Mr. Trabucco, played by Walter Matthau, has come to silence a key witness — a quick job, with a clean sightline from the window. But Victor Clooney (Jack Lemmon) is falling apart next door after his wife walked out, and his attempts to hang himself, gas himself, or just talk keep wrecking the killer's careful setup. The needier the sad sack gets, the closer a lucrative contract comes to collapsing. The pro's only option is to babysit his clingy neighbor and pray the man doesn't land them both in jail.

This was the fourth pairing of Lemmon and Matthau and the final film the great Billy Wilder ever directed, with Klaus Kinski turning up in a small role. It's a Hollywood remake of the French farce A Pain in the A** (1973). Stream Buddy Buddy (1981) online on iFILM.
