Synopsis

High schooler Arthur (Michael Angarano) waits tables, plays in the school band, and grows close to new girl Lila (Olivia Thirlby). His former babysitter Annie (Kate Beckinsale) is trying to start over after leaving her husband. Glenn (Sam Rockwell) has quit drinking and found religion, and now he is desperate to win his family back — but the harder he pushes, the more dread settles into the air. Teenage tenderness and adult despair run on parallel tracks until both hit the same point.
Adapted from Stewart O'Nan's novel, the film keeps an almost documentary restraint: no swelling score over the grief, just snowbound streets and faces.
