Synopsis
Another Woman (1988) is a Woody Allen drama you can watch online on iFILM — quieter and bleaker than most of his work, built around Gena Rowlands as Marion, a philosophy professor who spends fifty years keeping her emotions at arm's length and assumes that's called strength.
She rents an apartment to write undisturbed. Through a thin wall, she picks up voices from a psychiatrist's office next door: patients confessing their fears, their failures, their regrets. One voice — a depressed young woman played by Mia Farrow — lands differently. Marion starts listening. What she hears begins to unspool her own story: a marriage to a man she barely connects with (Ian Holm), friendships she let go cold, a capacity for cruelty she dressed up as self-discipline. Gene Hackman, Blythe Danner, and Martha Plimpton round out the cast as people Marion once pushed away.
Allen shot this under an obvious Ingmar Bergman influence, and it shows — the pacing and moral weight are closer to Wild Strawberries than to Annie Hall. It's his most underrated picture by some distance, and Rowlands gives a performance of complete technical control. Stream Another Woman (1988) online on iFILM.
