Abe

Abe (2020) is a coming-of-age dramedy from director Fernando Grostein Andrade, free to watch online on iFILM. A twelve-year-old from Brooklyn just wants to cook, and ends up cooking for a family that can't even agree on his name.

His Israeli relatives call him Abraham, his Palestinian ones Ibrahim, his parents settle on Abraham, and he'd rather just be Abe. Noah Schnapp plays the kid who's sure a shared dinner can thaw a table that's been frosty for years. Seu Jorge turns up as the Brazilian street cook who hands him a real apron.

Andrade keeps the runtime tight at 85 minutes and the lens small: one kitchen, one stubborn boy, one impossible peace treaty made of food. A good pick if you like gentle stories about growing up. Watch Abe (2020) online on iFILM.
