Synopsis
Skin Deep (1989) is a Blake Edwards romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Successful novelist Zach Hutton loses his wife and his mistress on the same bad day, and with them whatever self-control he had left. What remains is whiskey, a frozen typewriter and a parade of casual flings.
John Ritter plays the charming wreck who knows exactly how far he's sinking and still can't stop. Zach swears he'll win his ex back, which only requires the impossible — quit drinking and quit chasing every woman he meets. His support team amounts to a philosophical bartender and a very patient therapist. Somewhere between benders comes the glow-in-the-dark condom scene that became the film's calling card.
Edwards, the man behind The Pink Panther and 10, made a sour comedy about a middle-aged man who keeps mistaking freedom for self-demolition. The humor walks right up to the edge of cringe, and underneath the laughs sits a surprisingly clear-eyed talk about addiction. For fans of old-school American comedy carried by a single live-wire lead, this fits the bill. Stream Skin Deep online on iFILM.
