Synopsis
Wer (2013) is a horror-tinged thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A family vacationing in rural France is torn apart in the night, and the only suspect is Talan Gwynek, a hulking recluse from the nearby woods. Defense attorney Kate Moore takes his case.
The deeper Kate digs, the less this looks like a normal killing. Her client has hypertrichosis, a rare condition that covers his body in thick hair, paired with a frame so dense he can crush metal in his hands. She wants to clear him with medicine and lab tests, building a defense around science instead of superstition. Then a transport goes wrong, and the legend stops being a metaphor. A.J. Cook plays Kate; Brian Scott O'Connor is the near-silent Talan.
Director William Brent Bell shoots much of it like found footage, leaning on security cameras and handheld reportage with barely any score. Grounding the werewolf in a real diagnosis rather than a full moon is the film's sharpest idea, and a genuinely uncommon angle for the genre. At 89 lean minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome.
