Synopsis
The Other Side of Heaven (2001) — watch online on iFILM — is a faith-and-adventure drama directed by Mitch Davis, based on the memoir of real-life Mormon missionary John H. Groberg. In the 1950s, a young man from Idaho crosses the Pacific to serve in the island kingdom of Tonga, leaving behind his family and a girlfriend whose letters become his only connection to home.
He arrives knowing no Tongan and understanding almost nothing of the local customs; the community's trust has to be earned over months, not weeks. Christopher Gorham plays Groberg; Anne Hathaway appears as Jean in one of her earliest roles. Three years of hardship, small breakthroughs, and unexpected friendships work on him in ways he could not have anticipated before boarding the ship.
Producer Gerald R. Molen — a key figure behind Schindler's List — backed the project, and the location shooting across Tonga gives the film a warm, unhurried look that studio productions rarely manage. Quietly told and grounded in genuine events. Stream The Other Side of Heaven (2001) on iFILM.
