Mutant X (2001–2004) is a Canadian-American science-fiction action series you can watch online on iFILM. Covert government gene experiments created the "New Mutants" — people with extraordinary powers whose own makers now want them erased. Adam Kane, a scientist who helped build the program, switches sides, shelters the runaways and assembles a team to fight back.

The four leads operate out of an underground base called Sanctuary, tracking down others like themselves across the city: one bends electricity, one walks through walls, one moves faster than the eye can follow. Their nemesis is Mason Eckhart, Adam's old colleague turned icy corporate hunter who cages mutants in stasis pods. Victor Webster, Victoria Pratt, Forbes March and Lauren Lee Smith make up the squad, with John Shea as Adam. Shot in Toronto and dreamed up by Marvel chief Avi Arad, its kinship with the X-Men was no accident but practically a family matter.

The show ran three seasons and sixty-six episodes before ending on a cliffhanger, its planned fourth year scrapped when production company Fireworks collapsed. This is not glossy prime-time fantasy but a sturdy early-2000s genre series — latex costumes, slow-motion fights and all the earnest charm of its moment.
