About

Synopsis

The Express (2008) is an American sports drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Gary Fleder and starring Rob Brown as Ernie Davis — the running back who in 1961 became the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy, college football's top individual honor.

Davis grew up in the New York City projects and built his career at Syracuse University under coach Ben Schwartzwalder, played here by Dennis Quaid. The path ran through segregated venues, hostile crowds on the road, and a sports world that had no established place for a Black athlete at the front of the line. Davis navigated all of it without turning it into a public performance — and that quiet determination is what the film is built around.

At 130 minutes, the picture follows the standard arc of the sports biopic but grounds it in the specific civil rights context of the early 1960s. Ernie Davis never played a single NFL game — the film earns its weight in how it handles that fact. For fans of football history or stories about athletes who carried more than the ball, this one holds up. Stream The Express (2008) online on iFILM.
