Synopsis
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her (2014) is the woman's half of writer-director Ned Benson's two-part drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Jessica Chastain plays Eleanor, a woman who has stepped out of her marriage and out of sight; James McAvoy is the husband trying to understand why. The supporting cast includes Viola Davis, Isabelle Huppert, and William Hurt.
Eleanor goes home. She takes a class at her old university. She does not explain herself, not to her mother, not to her father, not to the professor who gives her more grace than she asked for. Whatever happened between her and Conor sits off-screen — Benson trusts you to feel its weight in how Eleanor moves through rooms rather than in exposition.
Chastain carries the film on very little dialogue, which is exactly what the role asks of her. Her (2014) is the companion piece to Him (2014), shot simultaneously — but each holds up alone. For audiences who prefer character over plot mechanics, this one rewards patience. Stream The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her online on iFILM.
