Synopsis
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them (2014) is an American drama you can watch online on iFILM. Writer-director Ned Benson assembled this version from two separate films — Him and Her — that premiered at Cannes; here the story of a marriage breaking apart is told from both sides at once, refusing to let the audience settle into either account.
Connor and Eleanor are a New York couple. After a loss that hollows out their shared life, Eleanor does something her husband can't reach: she disappears into a new identity — back to her parents' house, into a university classroom, somewhere nobody knows what happened. Connor runs a small restaurant and can't figure out how to grieve a person who is still alive. Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy carry the weight between them with enough restraint to make the silences register. Viola Davis, Isabelle Huppert, and William Hurt round out the cast.
What Benson is really examining is the gap that opens between two people who loved each other before the same event — and how that gap can grow wider than the event itself. Not a film about betrayal or forgiveness. A film about the specific loneliness of losing someone who hasn't left the room. Stream The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them (2014) online on iFILM.
