Synopsis
Z for Zachariah (2015) is a post-apocalyptic drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Craig Zobel. A nuclear war has emptied the world, and a young woman believes she may be the last person alive — until a stranger walks into her valley.
Ann (Margot Robbie) has survived in a sheltered mountain valley the fallout somehow spared. Then John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor) arrives, a scientist worn thin by radiation and a long, fruitless search for other people. Trust grows between them, then something closer to love. The fragile balance cracks when a third survivor, the younger Caleb (Chris Pine), turns up: two men, one woman, one tiny corner of a ruined earth.
Zobel skips the spectacle of most end-of-the-world films and keeps it to three people and a quiet, simmering question of who Ann will choose to believe. Adapted from Robert O'Brien's novel, it leans on performance rather than effects. Best suited to viewers who like slow tension and science fiction with no action set pieces.
