Testament
They never had a chance to see their children grow up. To watch each other grow old. To fix up the house, to take that vacation. Because it only took an instant to shatter their dreams.
Synopsis
Testament (1983) is Lynne Littman's quiet nuclear drama, free to watch online on iFILM. A normal morning in the small California town of Hamlin breaks off mid-sentence when a news bulletin reports warheads hitting New York and the East Coast — then the screen turns yellow and goes dead.
The story stays with the Wetherly family. Carol (Jane Alexander) holds the house together with three children after her husband never makes it back from the city. There is no mushroom cloud and no action here, just fallout creeping in, supplies running out, and a mother sewing burial shrouds for kids. A local ham-radio operator named Henry keeps one thin thread to the outside world.
Adapted from Carol Amen's short story "The Last Testament," the film earned Jane Alexander an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Look closely and you'll catch a young Kevin Costner, Rebecca De Mornay and Lukas Haas in early bit parts. Few anti-war films are this restrained or this quietly devastating.
