Tourist Trap

Tourist Trap (1979) is an American horror film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by David Schmoeller. Chuck Connors and Tanya Roberts star in one of the more genuinely unsettling low-budget pictures to come out of the late 1970s.

A group of friends break down on a remote highway and end up at Slausen's Lost Oasis, a roadside attraction populated by wax and plaster mannequins. The proprietor, Mr. Slausen, is welcoming — too welcoming. The mannequins stand perfectly still at first. Then they don't. Objects move without anyone touching them. Doors lock on their own. Something deeper in the building has its own ideas about the visitors.

Schmoeller builds dread from a very specific discomfort: humanoid figures that look almost right but aren't. Years before the phrase "uncanny valley" entered common use, this film was already exploiting that exact unease with a cold precision. There is very little gore.
