Synopsis
Luna (La Luna, 1979) is Bernardo Bertolucci's provocative drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Newly widowed American opera star Caterina Silveri brings her teenage son to Italy for a tour, unaware of how far he has slipped away from her.
Fifteen-year-old Joe is isolated, furious, and already hooked on heroin. When Caterina discovers the addiction, she throws everything at saving him — her career, a move abroad, and a closeness that crosses into dangerous, painful territory. Tangled into it is the buried question of the boy's real father, a quiet schoolteacher in the Italian countryside. Jill Clayburgh plays the unraveling mother, newcomer Matthew Barry the son, with a very young Roberto Benigni turning up in a small part.
The film scandalized audiences in 1979 and remains one of Bertolucci's most divisive works — operatic, chilly, deliberately uncomfortable. It is not a film for everyone. Stream Luna (1979) online on iFILM.
