Synopsis
Anne of the Thousand Days (1969) is Charles Jarrott's Tudor drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Richard Burton plays Henry VIII, a king consumed by one obsession: a son to inherit his throne. His queen gave him a daughter, so Henry decides to rewrite the rules of his realm.
To marry the young Anne Boleyn (Geneviève Bujold), Henry breaks England away from the Pope and crowns himself head of a new church. Anne wants the throne, not the role of a passing mistress, and she pushes back with a sharpness no one at court expects. Their thousand days together swing between desire and dread, from a coronation feast toward a scaffold inside the Tower of London.
Adapted from Maxwell Anderson's play, the film took home the Academy Award for its costumes, and those court gowns set the whole tone. Bujold landed a Best Actress nomination by playing Anne as a stubborn, flesh-and-blood woman rather than a tragic portrait. Best for viewers who like period pieces where palace politics and a doomed romance are knotted together. Stream Anne of the Thousand Days (1969) online on iFILM.
