Synopsis
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) is director George Roy Hill's classic Western you can watch online on iFILM, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford as the real-life Wyoming outlaws who led the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch plans, Sundance shoots. Together they're nearly untouchable — until they rob the same train twice and a relentless professional tracker is put on their trail.
Their only move is to run. With Sundance's girlfriend Etta Place, played by Katharine Ross, they make for Bolivia on the theory that nobody there has heard of them. It doesn't quite work out that way.
William Goldman's screenplay took the Oscar; Conrad Hall's cinematography, Burt Bacharach's score and the song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" also picked up Academy Awards. Four Oscars total for a film that feels lighter than its reputation — the real pleasure is watching Newman and Redford talk, because they sound like two people who've been friends so long they've stopped finishing their sentences.
